Making the Connection: Is Anaerobic Digestate An Asset For Anaerobic Composting? [Workshop]
Top

Making The Connection is a workshop for both composting and anaerobic digestion professionals. Digester operators must determine what to do with their digestate or it can become a liability. Composters need high quality feedstock. In this half-day workshop, we will explore the costs, benefits, technical and logistical challenges and the business of the three most common ways to make the connection between the digestate and compost: on site at the digester, on site at the composter or co-location. Plus, what parts of the digestate do composters really want?  The liquid? Just the carbon-rich fiber? With or without nutrients?

This workshop will enable participants to understand:

  • Biological process differences between anaerobic and aerobic processing of incoming feedstocks
  • How differences in both AD facility design and AD feedstocks determine digestate composition
  • Program for characterizing the physical and chemical attributes of digestate
  • What composters want — and don't want — in a feedstock based on the range of composting facility process designs
  • How use of digestate impacts key composting process variables: time, temperature, moisture
  • Using digestate as a feedstock to improve composting economics
  • Ownership and location options for aerobic composting – DBOOM  (design, build, own, operate, manage) by the AD facility, or sale/transfer to existing composting facility

Who should attend? Digestate producers, compost producers, regulators, financers

Monday, October 16, Afternoon
Cost: $125 with Conference, $195 Workshop Only

To register, choose either the two-day or one-day conference options and then choose Workshop 1 on the Add Events page.

Likewise, to register for just the workshop, select Workshop 1 ONLY on the Admission Items page.
