The Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) is creating a new standard for the certification of RNG from waste (landfills, food waste, wastewater, etc.) called the Green-e Renewable Fuels Standard. The goal is to encourage the adoption of this type of gas, while ensuring that it comes from renewable and sustainable resources, not only to protect customers who will use it, but also producers who can make the most of their product. The release of final version of the standard is expected by the end of 2020. The American Biogas Council has been working to help shape the standard and is hoping that CRS will change course before this first version is published and include RNG from animal manure and agricultural waste, which is currently excluded.
