The City Council has agreed to support a proposal for a $200,000 project development of the Waste Water Treatment Facility to use methane gas generated to heat and power the plant. The first phase of the upgrade would replace aging infrastructure of the 45-year-old facility. It would also fund an “Organics-to-Energy” program, upgrading digesters to process more organic waste. It would enhance the city’s ability to attract haulage waste, including sewage (septage), leachate (from landfills) and high-strength organic waste from breweries and dairy operations that would generate additional revenue to help pay for the upgrades.
