The much discussed draft legislation know as the Build Back Better bill or reconciliation package includes a number of benefits to help grow the biogas industry in the US, including a new tax credit for Biogas-RNG/Heat projects, extensions of several other tax credits important to the biogas industry and nearly $2B for USDA’s REAP program to make it easier for biogas projects to earn grants. As the legislation is still a draft, much work is still needed to pass it, but it seems at a glance that Congress has strongly recognized the widespread benefits that biogas systems bring to our nations economy and strategy to address climate change. It’s well known that all of the lowest carbon emitting transportation fuels in California, based on their full lifecycle, are all biogas based.
