NPR has done a great, share-worthy feature on a biogas system at Barstow’s Dairy and Bakery at Longview Farm in Hadley, Massachusetts developed by ABC member Vanguard Renewables. It produces 1MWn of renewable electricity, enough to power the digester and the dairy farm, their houses and outbuildings out here, and they still have 90 percent of the electricity left over to be put back on the grid. That powers some of the businesses that send their food waste to the digesters. It also powers two local towns. They’re able to purchase the electricity at a 10 percent to 15 percent discount. And the farm gets about $100,000 a year in savings. More >>
