The Oneida-Her Mkimer Solid Waste Authority has cut the ribbon on a new anaerobic digester.
The new Food2Energy facility will provide for the recovery of food scraps in order to divert waste from the regional landfill and turn it into energy.
The $3.4 million facility is located at the waste authority’s location in Utica. About 50 percent of the funding for the building was through grants.
All the recovered scraps go across the street to Oneida County’s Water Pollution Control Plant where it will be turned into electric energy through anaerobic digestion.
They hope to start testing the equipment in the next few weeks. More >>
