USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is awarding more than $14.6 million in grants to support the development of innovative systems, tools, and technologies for production and conservation on agricultural lands. Funds are provided through the Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) program, which awards grants to organizations, universities, and others that are developing innovations to support farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners. Newtrient LLC, an ABC member, was awarded their grant for “Environmental and economic benefits of dairy manure treatment technologies and practices for improving water quality.” Over the past two years, Newtrient has worked with partners to develop and test a specific protocol for evaluating dairy manure treatment technology performance. This project will apply this protocol to evaluate 15 technologies and practices for improving water quality, efficiently utilizing manure, and identifying new opportunities for marketable products in various regions.
