Microgrids are more than a buzz word in the energy industry, they are an increasingly important source of back up energy supply. The importance of an electric system that combines local energy resources and control technologies to provide power to a defined area is redefining the future of energy. Microgrids are popping up in many forms and sizes. And North Carolina is fortunate enough to have quite a few operational microgrids servicing remote areas of the mountain ranges in the west to the crystal east coast.
