ABC Member Webinar: “Fuel Blending: Maximizing Benefits for Biogas Operations”
October 21, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT
Biogas power and cogeneration applications can provide a range of economic and environmental benefits – facility cost improvements (when compared to procuring energy for power and thermal needs), reduction in overall carbon/environmental footprint, resiliency, etc. However, it is a fuel that can present a degree of variance and availability during operation – variability in waste type, environmental conditions, daily cycles of fuel supply, etc. Often, this leads to operation of the facility at lower capacities than the full load power generation equipment ratings.
Fuel blending of biogas with other fuels (natural gas, RNG, etc.) gives the facility the ability to utilize the capacity of the power generation equipment on an as needed basis, rather than depending on the production of biogas at a given time. This on board, engine mounted system allow seamless blending of two gas streams, with any range of desired fuel mixes, while maintaining constant load setpoints and emissions target, thus fully maximizing the economic benefit and value of the power generation or cogeneration system in the facility.
