Edinburgh, UK – April 24, 2026 — Carbogenics, an Edinburgh-based cleantech company specialising in advanced biochar solutions, has been shortlisted for the Sustainability Category at the Scotland Business of the Year Awards 2026.
The nomination recognises Carbogenics’ commitment to sustainability as a core principle of its business model. Founded with the mission of transforming difficult-to-recycle organic waste into high-value materials, the company is focused on supporting th
e transition to cleaner energy systems while addressing challenging waste streams.
Through its flagship product, CreChar®, Carbogenics engineers biochar specifically for use in anaerobic digestion (AD). The material is designed to enhance digestion performance, improve process stability, and increase renewable gas output – helping operators maximise efficiency while contributing to a more circular, low-carbon economy.
In addition to its work within AD, Carbogenics is actively exploring wider applications for its biochar technology. These include wastewater treatment (WWT), Direct Air Capture (DAC), and the remediation of orphan gas wells, expanding the potential role of engineered biochar in carbon removal and environmental restoration.
Commenting on the shortlisting, Carbogenics stated that it is a significant milestone for the company and a reflection of the team’s continued focus on innovation and sustainability.
The company has been recognised alongside a range of organisations driving impact across Scotland’s sustainability landscape, highlighting the growing importance of clean technologies and circular economy solutions in achieving net zero targets.
The winners will be announced at the Scotland Business of the Year Awards ceremony in Glasgow later this year.
