The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is putting a spotlight on digestate and hosting an international webinar October 28 on its role in circular nutrient management.
The webinar, Digestate as a biofertilizer: agronomic considerations for circular nutrient management, will examine how digestate from anaerobic digestion can return valuable nutrients — including nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium — to agricultural soils. FAO says digestate can help support more resilient and circular agricultural systems while providing a locally available source of recycled nutrients.
The event is part of the 2026 Global Bioenergy Partnership webinar series and follows growing international attention to the agricultural value of digestate, including ongoing work by the International Energy Agency examining digestate use. The IEA has previously identified digestate as a fertilizer co-product of biogas production and highlighted its potential to help offset fertilizer costs.
The webinar will take place October 28 at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (14:30 CET). Details and registration may be found here.
