The Michigan Public Service Commission has approved the request by ABC member DTE Gas Company (Case U-20839) to amend its voluntary BioGreenGas Program and implement a new Voluntary Renewable Gas Program (VRG) pilot. This change will allow DTE gas customers to elect to purchase renewable natural gas (RNG) in lieu of conventional natural gas for a small surcharge on their gas bill, similar to the way many electric utilities offer the option to purchase renewable electricity. Customers can pay $4 per month for each 25% of gas use the customer wishes to replace with RNG. The VRG pilot replaces the BioGreenGas Program approved in 2015.
