The Michigan Public Service Commission has approved the request by ABC member DTE Gas Company (Case U-20839) to amend its voluntary BioGreenGas Program and implement a new Voluntary Renewable Gas Program (VRG) pilot. This change will allow DTE gas customers to elect to purchase renewable natural gas (RNG) in lieu of conventional natural gas for a small surcharge on their gas bill, similar to the way many electric utilities offer the option to purchase renewable electricity. Customers can pay $4 per month for each 25% of gas use the customer wishes to replace with RNG. The VRG pilot replaces the BioGreenGas Program approved in 2015. If customer reaction is positive over the next couple years, DTE plans to request approval to make the program permanent. More >>
